The Burrard Inlet is a vibrant ecosystem that is surrounded by a busy and heavily populated waterfront. When completed, the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre will be the last piece of a continuous horizontal habitat restoration project stretching from Vancouver Ports to Stanley Park.

Using technology provided by Roper Resources Ltd, the Vancouver Aquarium will use the ROV to conduct yearly surveys of this underwater habitat to measure the re-establishment of marine life in the Burrard Inlet.

Staff, students and volunteers at the Aquarium will be able to review the video data to record species diversity and abundance, as well as make yearly comparisons. This information helps inform scientific research and policy, and also helps us to educate the public about important issues affecting our oceans and consequently, our daily lives.

The Seamor vehicle is modular and uses interoperable core modules, allowing easy swap out of thrusters, camera modules, or the electronics control canister and the open frame and tether is designed for the integration of additional custom or standard sensors or tooling. No other underwater ROV systems combine this much capability or opportunity for expansion into a single, portable system.

In July 2008 VISTA Engineering was contracted to perform a video inspection of a groundwater drainage pipe in Butte, MT. Over the past 100+ years the mines of Butte have produced many metals & ores; the most well-known is copper.

The groundwater contains dissolved mining tailings which include a variety of chemicals & heavy metals. This 10-inch diameter, perforated drain pipe is located at the Southern portion of the town in a geographically down slope area so that the surface water – within a man-made riparian corridor – that percolates into groundwater can be intercepted and conveyed to a large concrete detention vault for settling and pre-treatment before being discharged into the nearby river.

The four clips were lyynified™ after the inspection and clearly show how LYYN™ technology can enhance visibility and aid the inspection process.
