LYYN Hawk Portable and the latest software revision of LYYN Hawk Board has a new feature: inverted lyynification window.

This new feature comes as a request from the inpipe inspection business, but can of course be usefull in many applications.

The reasoning behind the feature and how it works.

The whole idea behind the selection window is that there in certain situations might be very high contrast, color or visual disturbance differences across the image. You position the lyynification window where you want the enhancement, without having the rest of the image influencing the automatic optimization process.

Usually you enhance the center of the image even though you can position the enhancement window on the corners or sides of the image. When performing inpipe inspections you are usually more interested in the edges of the image than the center. The image has extremely high contrast with the center of the image being very distant and pitch dark while you inspect the walls of the pipe.

This example shows the difference (even though it has dark walls and very bright center):

How to control the Inverted Window:

In LYYN Hawk Portable this feature is only accessible through the serial interface (RS232 port for computer control). There are no manual controls, buttons or knobs for this feature.

In LYYN Hawk Board Integration Kit you can access this new feature either on the serial control interface or the touch control pad. By pressing and holding the “+” button while pressing the window button you toggle inverse on and off.

LYYN has recently delivered a test order to the Italian company Control Systems S.r.l. in Cremona. The LYYN products are integrated into Control Systems video encoder VCA-1400M installed on a large number of cameras monitoring the Italian motorways by the Autostrade per l’Italia S.p.A. company.

Control Systems has been delivering video solutions to Autostrade for over 20 years and are very excited about the improved visibility that LYYN offers. ” In Italy we have a large problem with bad visibility due to the weather conditions during the winter months and we have been looking for a solution to this for some time”, says Gianfranco Cortellazzi, owner of Control Systems. ”After initial testing before the summer of 2009, Autostrade wanted to expand the test to multiple locations and this will be done during december. If the technical evalutation continues to be positive, we foresee a roll-out to many more locations all over Italy during 2010”.

”This is a breakthrough order for us in the surveillance market and we are very happy with the partnership with Control Systems”, says Bengt Sahlberg, President of LYYN. ”We have a number of installations already within the Ground Transportation market segment, but this is by far the largest ongoing project”.

VideoRay has several different units that are depth rated from 250 feet (76 m) up to 1,000 feet (300 m) and are utilized in a variety of underwater applications including; aquaculture & fishery operations, forensics & crime scene investigation, search & rescue missions, homeland & port security operations, recreational yachting, sportfishing & underwater marine life observation, shipwreck & treasure exploration, science, research and marine habitat mapping, inland dam inspection, offshore oil & gas rig observation, and numerous other underwater observation applications.

The ROV is operated from a suitcase sized control panel and provides crisp video footage to the user. Driving the VideoRay is similar to operating a video game. A specially trained ROV pilot is not needed. (In fact, kids raised on video games routinely put adults to shame piloting VideoRay.)

Following the successful introduction of LYYN T38™ to VideoRay users, there are many witnesses to its usefulness. However, since one of the strong points of the VideoRay ROV is its portability it introduced extra equipment necessary to carry around. “We have had several requests from users to have LYYN™ inside our products, and since LYYNs recent introduction the LYYN Hawk Board™ I am happy to say that this is now available.” says Chris Gibson, VideoRay Director Sales & Marketing.

VideoRay offers LYYN Hawk Boards™ integrated into the console in the standard configuration of the high-end model Pro4, as well as an option in earlier models. VideoRay dealers also offers LYYN T38™ to new and existing customers.

SEAMOR MARINE LTD. is a high tech manufacturer and distributor of Seamor underwater inspection remotely operated vehicles (ROV’s) and modules. The corporate head office is located on Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada.

Seamor Marine Ltd. was incorporated in 2006 after purchasing the Seamor technology from Inuktun Services. Seamor now hosts a 5000 sqr.ft. engineering, manufacturing & assembly, repair, testing, administrative and training facility in Nanaimo, BC.

The original Seamor-style underwater inspection ROV was developed over 17 years ago by Al Robinson for the recreational boater market. Later, the ROV Seamor system was designed with modern technology to provide better quality underwater video images, improved sensor integration, increased power and greater operational depth. Now, Seamor can incorporate devices such as Sonar, auxiliary video cameras, CP Probes, brush cleaning motors and manipulators/grippers, and operate at depths of up to 2,000 feet underwater.

The Seamor vehicle is modular and uses interoperable core modules, allowing easy swap out of thrusters, camera modules, or the electronics control canister and the open frame and tether is designed for the integration of additional custom or standard sensors or tooling. No other underwater ROV systems combine this much capability or opportunity for expansion into a single, portable system.

Standard Seamor products are represented globally by authorized Seamor ROV distributors and service centers and by contacting Seamor directly. Many of our clients and authorized distributors offer contract inspection services using their Seamor ROV’s or rental Seamor ROV’s – if you need support with an underwater inspection, we are able to assist or can certainly point you in the right direction. Custom underwater ROV design, manufacturing and integration services are available through the Seamor main sales office.

They offer integrated LYYN Hawk Boards™, see examples below. Please visit the Seamore Marine web site for more information.

The main focus of the company is the development and manufacturing of underwater video cameras and compact remote-controlled underwater survey vehicles (ROV), as well as carrying out underwater contracted works. Initially the ROV Gnom was designed for the company’s own needs, but because of the high-tech engineering solutions it has also become attractive for Russian and foreign customers. Today Indel-Partner offers several GNOM models designed for different tasks and depth ranges and equipped with umbilical cables in different lengths, diverse video cameras, manipulators etc.

The main advantages of the ROV Gnom:

Easy to use – even one person can operate the ROV using game joystick

Very convenient for operations from any water craft – the ROV can be launched from large vessel or even from rubber boat

High availability – the whole system setup time is less than 3-5 minutes

High maneuvering capability and ability to operate in hard-to-reach places such as small holes and cavities

Simple transportation – the whole system can be packed in two cases and carried by hand.

Battery power supply built in surface control case.

The GNOM’s price is relatively low in comparison with similar devices.

Indel-Partner has produced more than 230 ROV GNOM of sevral types that have been used on a wide range of underwater projects all over the world.

With more than 600 systems sold worldwide (2008) the success of the LBV has come largely from the exceptional capability, intuitiveness and affordability.

The Little Benthic Vehicle (LBV), a small remotely operated vehicle t is capable of carrying a wide array of oceanographic tools for inspection and light duty underwater work.

Recently SeaBotix equipped its ROV with knobby tires and gave it a vortex generator that lets it adhere to surfaces, such as the hull of a ship. Once stuck to the ship’s side, an operator can “steer” the vehicle like a radio-controlled car, traveling as fast as 100 feet per minute, looking for explosives or contraband.

The LBV systems are supplied with high resolution low light color cameras that provide high quality video images. Under less than perfect conditions the images can suffer from low contrast and poor color as a result of turbidity. This is not a fault of the camera, but rather a result of the conditions.

SeaBotix offers LYYN Hawk Boards™ integrated into the console as an option to all new systems. SeaBotix and SeaBotix dealers also offers LYYN T38™ to existing customers. Integration of a LYYN T38 into LBV and LBV150SE-5 systems is quite simple for most systems.
